Meet the Pastors - Donovan Holmes

So, Donovan:

Describe yourself in three words: Contemplative, Slow, Patient

"Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens..." Julie Andrews in The Sound of Music sings about some of her favourite things...what are some of yours?
Books next to my bed on the one side and my wife and daughter on the other. Sarah Mclachlan and Andrea Bocelli, milk chocolate, Milo, Pringles and a good home movie. Hmm, I can just see my waistline growing.

What's your pet peeve? Empty milk cartons at 5:30 in the morning and institutional bureaucracy/ apathy

What would be your dream holiday? Anywhere with play facilities for kids, mountains are cool too. The Cavern, Drakensberg has it all.

How were you called to be a pastor? Mainly through listening to a terrifying inner compulsion and the counsel of more experienced pilgrims.

What's the best thing about your job? People, people, people

What's the worst thing about your job? Evenings out.

What's on your bedside table (what are you reading)? “Surprised by Hope” N.T. Wright

Favourite quote?

When God sets out to embrace the enemy, the result is the cross. On the cross the dancing circle of self-giving and mutually indwelling divine persons opens up for the enemy; in the agony of the passion the movement stops for a brief moment and a fissure appears so that sinful humanity can join in. We, the others – we, the enemies – are embraced by the divine persons who love us with the same love with which they love each other and therefore make space for us within their own eternal embrace”. Miroslav Volf “Exclusion and Embrace”

What's your favourite thing about JBay? The wind, not! The beaches.

If our church was to begin another outreach program in Jeffreys Bay, what would you like that to be? Dream a little... An employment creation programme, teaching skills, setting people up in micro-businesses
